Bush fire season could be worst on record

Fire authorities are predicting this summer will be the worst bush fire season on record.

Premier Alan Carpenter said today that after the one of the driest Western Australian winters experienced in years, residents living near bushland needed to be prepared for the threat of bush fire.

Community Information Forums

As the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships are a major undertaking for the City of Stirling, a number of free community information forums are planned to advise the public about the event. These free sessions are scheduled for November 2006 and a final session in February 2007.

Perth runs out on top of major new event

Perth has clinched another major new tourism event - Interhash 2008 - which is expected to attract thousands of interstate and international visitors to Western Australia.

Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said Interhash 2008, a participation event involving the famous Hash House Harriers running club, would see up to 6,000 people running during the day and socialising at night.

Twilight Openings at the RSPCA

The RSPCA Animal Shelter is heading into the twilight zone – with Twilight Openings starting on Wednesday October 4th.

On every Wednesday throughout Summer, the Shelter in Malaga will remain open until 7pm to give people more time to find a new pet.

It means no more waiting until the weekend to see Perth’s biggest range of dogs & cats in need of new homes.

New website for children and young people in Western Australia

The Office for Children and Youth's exciting new website goes live today.

Minister for Youth David Templeman said the website was a fun and easily accessible online hub for people wanting to learn more about issues affecting children and young people, or who wanted to access information on various programs, funding opportunities and activities for Western Australia's youth
